Around 187 million people in China shopped online in 2011 and transaction volume reached as high as 773.56 billion Yuan, up 67 percent year on year, says a report.
China Ministry of Commerce clearly says that it will be one of the focus tasks of the Ministry this year to promote the development of new consumer formats such as online shopping.
Chinese consumers mainly shopped for clothing, books, household appliances, plane and train tickets and insurance products.
Garments, footwear and luggage accounted for a majority share with 26.5 percent, home appliances ranked second, books & audio-visual products grabbed a share of 4.9 percent and 3 percent respectively, ranking at third and fourth place.
