3D data results in perfect mannequins for best sample size

Alvanon Inc., the global fashion industry's leading “fit” expert, has released details of its latest range of fashion sizing and fit tools based specifically on the dominant body shape of “real” US women.
Alvanon's “US Missy Standard” avatar and AlvaForm technical “fit” mannequin range is the result of thousands of 3D body scans taken of women aged between 25 and 45 years across the US.
The 3D data, incorporated into ASTM International Standard D5585 by subcommittee D13.55 on Body Measurement and Apparel Standards, identified two dominant body shapes among women in the target age range – “straight” and “curvy.”
Alvanon's team of morphological experts used the data to generate computer based avatars and physical technical fit mannequins that accurately and realistically represent the two dominant body shapes across the full range of US sizes from 2 to 14.
The tools will enable brands and retailers to select the best sample size for their target consumer demographic, validate their fit across the sizes they offer and ultimately design clothes that fit more of their customers better.
Alvanon's straight and curvy US Missy Standard shape ranges, are available in a choice of physical AlvaForms either full, half or slack made from either fibreglass or Alvanon's self-healing, skin soft memory foam.
Features may include two detachable arms with shoulder caps, collapsible shoulders, collapsible right hip, detachable legs and measurement lines. Each form is supplied with a perfectly balanced full or half form premium metal stand. The ASTM Missy Standard forms are now available off the shelf.
The ASTM Missy Standard range is the latest addition to Alvanon's industry acclaimed AlvaForm Standard series that includes a European body shape fit standard range.
There are plans to launch Mexican and global junior standards ranges later this year. In addition, Alvanon creates fully customized AlvaForms to a specific brand's or retailer's target consumer demographic.
