Japanese retailer Muji to expand European footprint

Muji, one of the biggest Japanese homeware and garment retailer plans to raise its European retail footprint following a surge in pre-tax profits in fiscal year ending January 28, 2012.
Muji which has 12 stores in UK now plans to increase the number of stores in countries where it is already present like Sweden and France and also open new stores in European countries where it does not have a presence.
The European retail business reported revenues of £61.18 million, up a marginal 4 percent. However its pre-tax profits surged 16 percent year on year to £3.86 million, in fiscal year ending January 28, 2012.
It hopes to open the new stores, either through franchisees or directly owned.
