Nougat to create new apparel line for 40-plus women

London-based womenswear brand Nougat will launch a new brand called Project 40, a 150-piece contemporary range comprising casual wear, knitwear, jackets and dresses.

The first Project 40 range for Spring 13 will be showcased at Pure London trade show in August this year. Colour and print will prominently feature in the new collection, which will have wide use of natural fibres like linen and silk.

Nougat has hired former Fenn Wright Manson design director Claire Lawrence as head of design for Project 40. Lawrence would be assisted by a team of three designers – Anju Mahbubai, Sharon Jones and Patrick Hollwey – to create designs for Project 40 brand.

Harry Rogers, Chairman of Nougat, said there are not enough affordable fashion brands in the market for the 40-plus women's segment and he hopes Project 40 will fill the gap.

He said there are several brands who sell wholesale to large retailers. Nougat will supply Project 40 products only to smaller department stores so they do not have any competition from large retailers.

Nougat aims to wholesale the Project 40 range at 350 of its existing clients in the UK and Republic of Ireland, while adding new stockists, he added.
