In view of the problems that it encountered with its warehouse management system (WMS) last year, the UK-based fashion retailing chain SuperGroup is making a shift to the third party logistics (3PL).
SuperGroup has entered into a two-year contract with logistics firm Wincanton, which would help the apparel retailer with expansion of its supply chain.
The logistics firm won confidence of the fashion retailer as it stepped forward to help SuperGroup during last Christmas trading peak, when the retailer was in trouble due to installation of a new WMS.
Wincanton team then set up a temporary distribution system at the vacant Gloucester Business Park site within just five days, which not only allowed the retailer to execute its orders in time, but also to meet record sales.
SuperGroup is now developing the Gloucester site into a state-of-the-art supply chain hub at a cost of £1.5 million, and is shifting its retail distribution operations to Gloucester from the nearby Barnwood warehouse.
Established in 1985, SuperGroup operates a multi-channel business through a combination of Cult and Superdry standalone outlets, Superdry concessions, e-commerce and its UK and overseas wholesale operations.
As a distinctive branded UK apparel retailer offering quality clothing and accessories, SuperGroup currently has 76 UK standalone Cult and Superdry retail stores, 74 concessions and a large number of wholesale relationships.
