The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics announced that the program has entered into a four-year agreement that makes world-renowned athletic apparel company Nike the official supplier of the school's athletic wear beginning with the 2012-13 academic year.
UAH will obtain the Nike product from Nashville Sporting Goods – a highly respected athletic gear supplier based in Tennessee.
“We are ecstatic about our new multi-year agreement with Nike through Nashville Sporting Goods,” stated UAH Director of Athletics Dr. E. J. Brophy. “Nike is the premier shoe and apparel company in the world and Nashville Sporting Goods is the class of our region, servicing such schools as Vanderbilt, Chattanooga and Murray State. We feel extremely fortunate to be working with both of these first-class organizations.”
The deal will provide game uniforms and staff clothing emblazoned with the famous Swoosh logo, giving all Chargers a clean and consistent look that will only solidify UAH's place as a leading athletic department nationally.
The agreement formally begins on July 1.
Founded in 1972, Nike has grown from a U.S.-based footwear distributor to a global marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and equipment that is unrivaled in the world.
Nashville Sporting Goods was established in 1945, concentrating mainly on recreational boat sales, as well as fishing and hunting equipment. Walter R. Nipper purchased the company in 1950, and saw a need for team sporting goods equipment sales. Since that time Nashville Sporting Goods has become a leader in team sports in Tennessee and the Southeast.
