Economy Session at 28th IAF World Apparel Convention

Speakers from renowned companies and organisations worldwide have already confirmed their attendance at the 28th IAF World Apparel Convention tobe held on 26 and 27 September 2012 in Oporto, Portugal. The International Apparel Federation (IAF) is pleased to announce the moderator and speakers in the Economy Session. The Economy Session will focus on the general economic outlook of Europe, USA, Asia and Latin America. The opportunities for fashion business in emerging markets will be discussed as well as the possibilities of positioning a brand in a new market.

The moderator of this session, Camilo Lourenço, is an economics journalist and scholar. He is former Editor of Economics on radio stations and columnist of SIC Notícias (news channel). At present he is a columnist at Jornal de Negócios (Business Journal), Record (Sports Journal) and is a TV analyst at the Portuguese State channel RTP and RTP-N for economic issues. He also comments on the football business and is the author and presenter of radio programs on economy and investment issues.

Kenote speaker Professor Daniel Bessa has a Degree in Economics and a Master in Economics. He is Professor at the University of Oporto and has taught at the University of Economics, the University of Engineers and at the Institute of Entrepreneurship. Bessa also serves as Administrator of Finibanco Holding, is a non-executive administrator at Efacec Capital and the Agency for Investment and External Trade of Portugal. He is also President of the supervisory board at GALP Energy, Sonae SGPS and Bial and President of the advisory council of the Institute for the Capitalization Fund Management of the social security. At present Bessa is Director General at COTEC (Portugal) and has been an economist since 1983.

Speakers in the Economy Session include Carlos Botero, Director at INEXMODA (Colombia), Kevin Burke, President and CEO at the American Apparel and Footwear Association (USA) and Jiang Hui, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import & Export of Textiles (China). Director of the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association, Fernando Pimentel (Brazil), will also be speaking, as will Govind Shrikhande, CEO at Shoppers Stop (India).

The upcoming 28th IAF World Apparel Convention will be held on 24 – 28 September 2012 in Oporto, Portugal, and will focus on the theme Fashion Business in a Changing Environment. Registration, which can be done on the IAF website, has officially opened. All interested delegates are invited to consult the website for information regarding theme, program and registration.
