Chinese apparel retail sales increase in August

Large-scale retail enterprises in China witnessed a 17 percent year-on-year growth in garment sales in August 2012, around five percent more than the 12 percent year-on-year growth achieved a month earlier, according to the statistics of the China Commercial Information Centre.

The rise in apparel sales is attributed to the combined effect of improved weather and summer promotions carried out by retail enterprises.

The increase in domestic clothing demand would mean that the order situation of Chinese textile enterprises will improve.

Currently, the textile industry is operating at around 50 percent of its capacity, with most small manufacturing units having entirely stopped their manufacturing activity.

As per a survey conducted by the Cotton Information Network, 65 percent of the textile firms are not optimistic about cotton price rising in future.

These enterprises held 23.36 days of yarn inventory in August, 4.11 days more than the stocks held last August.

Similarly, they held fabric stock for 28.49 days last month, up 0.15 days compared to July 2012.
