Kyrgyzstan garment output touches 5bn soms till Aug

Garment production in CIS Republic of Kyrgyzstan touched five billion soms for the first eight months of 2012, Sapar Asanov, Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry, has said.
 
Inaugurating the ‘Autumn 2012’ exhibition, the Minister said garment production in the country this year is likely to surpass production of seven billion soms achieved in 2011.
 
Since 2006, Kyrgyzstan has been holding an annual exhibition in Bishkek city. But, from this year, the Government has decided to hold an additional exhibition in Osh, the Minister informed.
 
Around 150,000 people work in Kyrgyz garment sector, which produces apparels mainly for export to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
 
About 90 percent of apparels produced in Kyrgyzstan are exported to Russian and the Central Asian countries, according to the Minister.
