Alabama-based American Apparel, Inc., which manufactures US military uniforms and employs 1,300 workers, will lay-off hundreds of people soon, as the company lost its contract with the US military.

The company said the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in Pennsylvania has awarded a uniform manufacturing contract to its competitor Alaska Native Corporation, and as a result the company would soon cut jobs.

Meanwhile, the representatives of the apparel company have met the officials of the Alabama federal delegation to emphasize on the importance of supporting a company like American Apparel which employs US citizens.

The company is protesting against the loss of contract and it has filed a formal protest with the General Accounting Office.

American Apparel Inc. is an industry leader in manufacturing of combat and utility uniforms for the US military and it produces all kinds of uniforms for the department of defense, including coats and pants.

The company operates five apparel manufacturing facilities in Alabama.
