In its effort to explore new apparel export destinations, Bangladesh would participate in the “Asian International Apparel Sourcing Show 2012” slated to kick off at Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, from December 6, 2012.

In all 30 apparel producers from the Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA), Bangladesh Grey and Finished Fabrics Mills and Exporters Association (BGFFMEA) and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) would participate in the expo.

Being jointly organized by CEMS-Global and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the three-day event would prove to be highly beneficial for the country’s readymade garment (RMG) industry, SS Sarwar, Group CEO of CEMS-Global said during a media briefing.

The fair would provide textile and apparel producers from across the world with an opportunity to get in touch with each other, while buyers would be able to benefit from a ‘Triangle Trade’ through which they would be able to pick a fabric supplier from one country and an apparel producer from another country, Mr. Sarwar said.

Highlighting the significance of the venue, he said global trade dynamics have changed drastically in recent period and today almost all of the world’s major apparel buying offices and agencies have their offices in Singapore, from where they manage their Asia-Pacific operations, including sourcing. The same offices take decision regarding sourcing from Southeast Asian textile and apparel producers.

In addition to this, Spring-Singapore, a Government of Singapore undertaking, has already announced Singapore as the second biggest textile and apparel sourcing hub in Asia-Pacific region, and the country is soon expected to replace Hong Kong in the number one position and establish itself as the world’s topmost apparel, fabric and yarn sourcing hub, he added.

EPB Vice Chairman Subhasish Bose told reporters that the expo would help Bangladeshi RMG producers tap new markets for their products. It is for the first time that the show would showcase fabrics alongside readymade garments.
