The Japan International Apparel Machinery Trade Show (JIAM 2012 Osaka), held for four days at INTEX Osaka, and attended by 207 exhibitors from 17 countries and territories who occupied 1,028.6 booth spaces, ended successfully. The organizers gratefully acknowledge the cooperation and support of all those who helped make it such a success.

Aiming to seriously promote the greater cooperation and integration of allied industries, this tenth show in the series was billed as New-look JIAM. The exhibition showcased the strengths of the Japanese sewing machine industry along with the power of the textile, apparel and fashion industries. The show was blessed with sunny weather, and the special theme zone, as well as the varied exhibitor displays, impressed many people from inside and outside the industry, and from Japan and overseas.

Attendance: The show attracted serious visitors from 53 countries and territories

Worldwide, attendance was 15,764 people (2,594 from overseas) from 53 countries and areas. As well as coming from the sewing machinery sector, visitors listed involvement in related sectors such as apparel making, retailer and trading company. Besides China, South Korea, and Taiwan, a large number of Asian visitors came from Southeast Asia and South Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Many of the Japanese makers showed their latest models and systems, technology that cannot be seen at sewing machinery trade shows in other countries. On questionnaires, many visitors responded in this vein: “I was glad to have experienced the latest technology”; and “I was able to get information from a lot of go-getting companies.” Able to see the exhibits they wanted and obtain the information they came for, more than 90% of respondents said that they achieved the purpose of their visit.

Exhibitors: Japanese makers able to spread technology and information far and wide

In questionnaire responses, 90% of exhibitors said that business negotiations took place. New-look JIAM was highly rated: about 75% of exhibitors answered that outcomes of the current show exceeded expectations or were in line with expectations. Meanwhile, reflecting the successful strategy of spreading by linkage, about 30% of exhibitors were newcomers to JIAM. Regarding future participation, about 60% of respondents said that they would exhibit or were considering exhibiting in the next show in the series.

Theme zone: The strengths of Japan

The theme zone was designed to present the strengths of Japan to the world.

Divided into four corners ? Advanced Technology and Information Transmission, Cool Japan, Human-Friendly, and Sports & Sew ? and featuring varied stage events, the them zone succeeded in transmitting the energy of Japan to the world. With 70% of respondents listing a visit, the theme zone generated great interest and the content of exhibits was rated as good.
