Seven employees, all of them women, were killed and at least five others were injured in a fire accident at a garment manufacturing company in Bangladesh on January 26.
The fire erupted at the manufacturing unit of Smart Fashions, in Dhaka’s suburb of Mohammadpur, soon after the employees returned after lunch.
The blaze has gutted almost everything at the small factory where around 300 workers, mostly women, stitched garments and jackets.
The fire incident has occurred just two months after the deadly Tazreen factory fire incident that killed 112 workers.
Bangladesh houses about 4,500 garment factories, and it is the world’s second-largest exporter of clothing after China.
Around 80 percent of Bangladesh’s US$ 24 billion of foreign exchange earnings comes from exports of apparels.
