Indonesia offers lucrative market for Philippine clothing

Retailers, franchisors and exporters of apparels from Philippines can consider Indonesia as a potentially lucrative market for their products, the Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (PHILEXPORT) said in its weekly news bulletin.

Alma Argayoso, Commercial Attache at the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre (PTIC) in Jakarta, discussed the possible export of Philippine clothing with Agus Gozali, president and director of PT Prime Mode Indonesia, a company under Indonesia’s leading lifestyle retailer PT Mitra Adiperkasa (MAP).

Recently, PT Prime Mode Indonesia opened two Penshoppe stores in Indonesia. Penshoppe is one of the leading casual clothing brands in Philippines.

PT Prime Mode Indonesia operates 1,381 retail outlets across Indonesia, while its parent company MAP Group is credited with bringing several well-known lifestyle brands to Indonesia such as Marks and Spencer, Zara, Debenhams, Sogo and Seibu.

During the meeting, Mr. Gozali said his company plans to open a minimum of 150 Penshoppe outlets across the country during the next ten years.

He also expressed interest to open franchise stores of other Philippines-based lifestyle and clothing retailers like Bayo, Plains and Prints and Bench.

Argayoso said PTIC would soon arrange a meeting between Bench and PT Prime Mode Indonesia.

The possibility of opening retail outlets in Indonesia of Philippine baby wear brand Rajo Laurel, bridal accessories brand Caolina’s Shoppe, and home textiles brand Regalong Pambahay was also discussed during the meeting.
