German apparel firms debut at CHIC 2013

About 26 German apparel firms made their debut at the recently concluded China International Clothing and Accessories Fair (CHIC 2013) with their distinctive colours and design, as well as German quality assurance.

While showcasing their products and brand images at the German pavilion, the exhibiting companies also observed the demand and responses to their products from the Chinese buyers.

Owing to several years of stagnation, German textile and apparel industry today mostly comprises small and medium enterprises.

For example, Monari employs only 215 people, which is generally attributed to high-level of development of German textile machinery. In today’s world market, ‘Made in Germany’ textiles and apparels have become synonymous with quality and credibility.

At CHIC 2013, Frank Henke Fashion Company for the first time launched its high-end brand Blacky Dress, meant for independent women. The apparel designs make heavy use of wool and leather.

Frank Henke’s CEO Markus Dejori said German design was unique and was different from Italian and French clothing styles.

The company develops about 500 new designs and styles every quarter and the CEO believes that designs are never repeated.

German Garment Industry Association president Thomas Rasch said German clothing was in tune with consumer demand and comes with quality assurance and fit.

Hence, even under the backdrop of the European sovereign debt crisis, German apparel industry sales reached € 12 billion in 2012 and the average sales of German clothing firms grew by over two percent year-on-year.

As per a survey of 340 member companies conducted by the German Garment Industry Association, the German garment sector is expected to witness a 2.7 percent year-on-year growth in sales in 2013.
