Italian expo highlights Prato's ancient recycling industry

An exhibition-cum-historical journey, highlighting the ancient recycling industry of the Italian province of Prato, is going to take place at the famous Museo del Tessuto (Textile Museum, Prato) from April 25 to May 30, 2013.
 
Titled as ‘Vintage, The Irresistible Appeal of the Past’, the exhibit tells the fascinating history of re-wearing and reusing clothes and fabrics, a trend which has existed nearly as long as fashion itself.  
 
Jointly organized by the Fondazione Museo del Tessuto di Prato and A.N.G.E.L.O Vintage Archive, the exhibition also focuses on the antique art of turning second hand clothing into a covetable charming fashionable ensemble.
 
Divided into three sections, the event features more than 100 pieces of clothing and accessories designed by some of the world’s topmost designers.
 
Celebrating the concept of recycling, the first segment includes an 18th century devotional statue costume made from old 16th century fabrics and a colourful, silk and wool patchwork funeral pillow of Bishop Antonio di Bellincione degli Agli.
 
The second section gives a sneak peek at the fabric recycling industry in Prato by showcasing fabrics and garments made from wedding gowns, army uniforms, flags and priest robes.
 
The final section displays outfits worn by those involved in youth movements of the ‘60s and ‘70s, as well as overcoats, women’s suits and evening gowns designed by the likes of Chanel, Valentino, Christian Dior, Hermes, Gucci and Ferragamo.
