Cotton content in clothing items declines in China

31 May '13
1 min read

These days, it is becoming increasingly hard to find a clothing item made of cent percent cotton in China.

Even apparels with cotton label, on closer examination, are found to contain some percent of terylene, polyester, acrylic or other fabric.

Over the past few years, the price of cotton has increased sharply from about 14,000 yuan/ton to 20,000 yuan/ton. This has forced many textile manufacturers in China to shift to production of synthetic or mixed fabric to cut costs, according to analysts.

As a result, it is becoming very difficult to locate a pure cotton clothing item in Chinese retail stores.
