With exciting special events across the country, Macy's is set to commemorate the cultural influence of the Latino community while also paying homage to two international stars and named this year's Macy's Icons of Style - singer, actress, author and fashion designer Thalia and Nickelodeon's animated preschool heroine Dora the Explorer.
"Macy's recognizes and values the deep heritage and influence Latinos have contributed to our nation not only in fashion, but music, food, and every aspect of culture," said Dineen Garcia, Macy's vice-president of Diversity Strategies.
"As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Macy's is proud to commemorate those contributions with great special events in stores nationwide while also honoring our two Icons of Style - influencer, style maker and music superstar Thalia and animated heroine Dora the Explorer."
Thalia commented, "I am so honored Macy's has chosen me as an Icon of Style for 2013. To be recognized as a Latina Icon of Style means a lot to me and am grateful to Macy's for all they do to promote Hispanic Heritage. I am proud of my culture and think it comes through in everything I do - my passion for my family, my music, my writing and my personal style. I hope to always inspire and to be a positive Latina influence for others."
Macy's Hispanic Heritage events will take place at stores across the country including Santa Ana, New York City, Jersey City, Chicago, Miami, El Paso, West Covina, Glendale, Santa Clara, Bellevue, Gurnee, Atlanta, McAllen and Roseville. Customers who join the celebration will have the opportunity to take a look Inside Thalia's Closet and/or meet Dora the Explorer.
The Inside Thalia's Closet events will explore Thalia's influence in music and fashion with a look at her most coveted red carpet looks and her own personal style. From Latin music to fashion presentations, these events will also offer fans the opportunity to receive the latest copy of Thalia's album "Habitame Siempre" and the live DVD "Habitame Siempre - Edicion Especial" as a special gift.
Thalia will make special appearances at the Herald Square, New York event on September 26th and the Newport Center, Jersey City event on September 28th. The Dora the Explorer events will include a Reading Circle event with featured Dora book "Dora's Chilly Day," a backpack craft station and the opportunity to meet Dora and take a photo with her!
