On the issue of transparency and supply chain management, the workshop participants felt that factories should be focusing on the processes at this stage and not raw material issues. On the issue of environment, health and safety norms, participants brainstormed on energy efficient ways that can be encouraged through this programme.
Chairman DISHA sub-committee Mr. Ashok Logani shared updates on latest developments in implementation of DISHA i.e., total enrollment of more than 350 factories and 170 factories having completed the DISHA facilitation sessions and now ready for final external assessment and also shared basic concepts of DISHA champions, DISHA facilitators, DISHA implementation methodology, facilitation extended to participating factories by DISHA, award of adoption certificates and national and international feedback.
DISHA Champions (Factory employees & management representatives who are trained on DISHA implementation procedures by DISHA facilitators) also shared their experiences, learnings they have gained from the factories and also the constraints in the implementation of the programme. DISHA Facilitators ( Expert Trainers drawn from the industry, inducted in the program through formal training workshop, who implement capacity building on DISHA in the factories) also shared their perspective of the last one year experiences in dealing with the garment factories.
On many issues need for further deliberation was felt which AEPC would be taking up through subsequent engagements with core group members. The meeting was attended by brands like Marks and Spencers, GAP and Children Place along with the representative from Global reporting Initiative (GRI). The bodies like ICCI and QCI (Quality Council of India) participated and shared their views. This workshop is need based and can be convened as and when required.
