Clothing brand Souchi to open new store in Chicago

Cashmere knitwear designer Suzi Johnson will open a new retail store in Chicago for her Souchi clothing brand. The 950-square-foot space on 1205 West Webster Ave. will showcase Souchi’s prized hand-loomed cashmere, merino wool and organic cotton pieces.

“I’ve always loved Chicago,” said Souchi owner and designer Suzi Johnson. “We’ve sold more clothing here through boutique shops than in any other market, and since moving to Aspen, the Chicago connection has grown very strong.”

Johnson takes pride in her pieces that she describes as being both incredibly comfortable for everyday wear and also luxurious and sexy enough for an evening out with friends.

“Souchi pieces represent a great fashion investment with lasting value, as you will keep them in your closet for years, pulling them out to wear often,” said Johnson. “The classy comfort is what really appeals to our customers.”

Celebrities seem to agree as many have been spotted wearing Souchi, including Kim Kardashian, Hillary Duff, January Jones, Emma Roberts, Kristin Cavallari and Kathryn Heigl.

Johnson started Souchi in 1997 after a boutique shop owner stopped her on the street to ask about the sweater she was wearing. After learning that Johnson designed and hand-loomed the piece herself, the shop owner ordered 10 on the spot.

Today, the Souchi brand covers sweaters, halters, dresses, hoodies and summer wear, including briefs and bikinis, all hand-loomed by Johnson, as well as hand-picked pieces from other unique designers.

In addition to the new Chicago location, Souchi has a retail store in Aspen and sells to a number of boutique stores across the United States.
