According to the results of the ‘Women’s clothing market in the Russian Federation’ research, this trend of buying dresses amongst women in Russia is associated with the desire of Russian women to create a more economically coherent image of them in the society.
As per the study, the share of sales of women’s dresses in the Russian womenswear market as of today is at an average of 20 percent, with over 15 percent average sale of mid-price segment dresses and 23 percent average sale of top-price segment.

Growing share of sales of these dresses as opposed to unisex style and androgynous fashion could also be attributed to economic crisis situation as these dresses can allow women to economically create a more solid image of themselves during work or everyday casual outings, the research reveals.

According to the study, t-shirts, shirts sales in the women’s clothing markets follow an average sales percentage of 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively. The lowest sales percentage has been till date recorded in the categories of coats and jackets which stand at an average of half a percent, the report adds.

Ivan Fedyakov, CEO of INFOLINE, said that in general, the structure of the product range in the Russian market is not very different from the structure of the European market. The biggest demand is for casual wear which accounts for half of the sales in women’s clothing market at around 53 percent, he added.

Mr. Fedyakov said however, even casual wear clothes should feature designs and styles that emphasizes femininity, which is why there is less demand of formal or office wear.

According to INFOLINE analysts, the total value of women’s clothing market in Russia was US$ 37 billion in 2012, and the agency experts forecast that on the basis of this study, Russian womenswear market may exceed US$ 40 billion in 2013.
