Colombians spend $1bn on apparel in Oct 2013

Colombian citizens purchased apparel worth US$ 1.035 billion during the month of October 2013, as per the Institute for Export and Fashion of Colombia (INEXMODA) Fashion Observatory—Raddar.
 
According to a statement issued by INEXMODA, the average per capita expenditure on clothing in the country was US$ 21.969 for the month of October, showing a rise of 3.27 percent year-on-year in per capita spending on apparel.
 
The highest level of per capita spending on apparel were from the cities of Manizales, Pasto and Monteria, with per capita expenditure on clothing at US$ 70.58, US$ 69.75 and US$ 45.43, respectively, during the month of October 2013.
 
Carlos Eduardo Botero, president of INEXMODA, said apparel purchases in the country rose substantially in the month of October and this growth was majorly led by these three cities, and it is expected to grow in the coming years.
 
The domestic apparel market is heavily concentrated in the four largest cities of Colombia, such as Bogota, Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla accounting for 53 percent of the total apparel market of the country.
 
According to INEXMODA Fashion Observatory—Raddar director Camilo Herrera, compared to the month of October 2012, spending on goods and services in Colombia increased by 11.55 percent in October 2013, of which spending on apparel accounted for 0.87 percent.
