ASOS wraps up 2013 with very strong sales surge

Driven by a strong performance in its home market and a robust showing in the overseas markets, UK online fashion retailer ASOS Plc. wrapped up 2013 in style as it posted healthy growth in sales revenue for the four months ended 31 December 2013.

The company, which is primarily engaged in offering fashion for men and women in their youth, under its own range of clothes and branded products, witnessed a 38 per cent rise in total revenue at 335.6 million pounds in the four months to 31 December 2013 from 243.8 million pounds in the same period a year ago, driven by strong Christmas and holiday season sales.

Sales were boosted by major improvements in customer proposition including delivery options, additional payment methods.

Sales in the UK climbed by 37 per cent to 133.6 million pounds in the four months to 31 December 2013 from 97.7 million pounds in the year ago period as a recovering economy boosts consumer sentiment.

ASOS also witnessed a strong performance in overseas markets such as the EU and US as international revenue rose by 38 per cent to 202 million pounds in the four months to 31 December 2013 from 146.1 million pounds in the year ago period driven by the roll out of premier services in key international markets. Sales in the EU rose by a whopping 69 per cent, year on year in the period.

At the end of 2013, the company had 7.9 million active customers, up 41 per cent from the previous year ago period, signaling its increasing popularity in key international markets.
