A new campus of the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) of India is to be set up in the town of Ankleshwar, in Bharuch district of the state of Gujarat, as the Indian Government has sanctioned Rs 1 billion for the construction of the campus.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry would be setting up the new FDDI campus in Ankleshwar with the aim of providing more professionals in the footwear industries of Gujarat as well as other states of India.

The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has allotted 10 acres of land for setting up the FDDI campus in Ankleshwar and the process for the construction has already been initiated. Admissions to the new institute are expected to begin from the academic year of 2015.

The FDDI, established by the Government of India in 1986, provides training in footwear design, retail management, technology management, fashion merchandising and creative designing, among others.

Currently the institute has a pan-India presence with eight campuses at Noida and Fursatgunj in Uttar Pradesh, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Kolkata in West Bengal, Rohtak in Haryana, Jaipur in Rajasthan, as well as Chhindwara and Guna in Madhya Pradesh.

To connect manufacturers and suppliers with buying houses and fashion brands, Fibre2fashion.com is coming up with an online fair on Leather "Skin Show 2014" scheduled in Mid March-2014.
