Virtuous Retail Surat celebrates first anniversary

Celebrates a Successful Year as South Gujarat’s Premier Lifestyle, Retail & Entertainment Hub Surat, June, 2014: Launched in April 2013 with revolutionary retail concepts, VR Surat, the inaugural retail lifestyle destination developed by Virtuous Retail, India's largest institutionally-owned developer-operator of Lifestyle Community Centers, celebrated its 1st birthday in May 2014.
 
Over the course of the past year, VR Surat has revolutionized the retail and entertainment space in the region by combining state-of-the-art experiences with local cultural tastes. VR Surat has firmly established itself as the region’s cultural and tourist hub by curating a range of exciting retail, art, cultural and community initiatives.
 
Spread across six lakh sq. ft, VR Surat is home to over 100 leading brands, many of which, like Marks & Spencer, Shoppers Stop, Tommy Hilfiger, Omega, Swarovski, and MAC have debuted in Surat, while some like, Zara, Gourmet West, SVM Bowling & Gaming, have debuted in Gujarat.
 
Since its opening in April 2013, VR Surat has initiated several festivals, including Glam Garba, KhoobSURAT, Dumas Art Project and Dilwaali Diwali, amongst others, to develop the tourism potential of the 1,000-year old port city.
 
The Center has hosted over 5MM visitors from across the South Gujarat region, including business visitors, NRIs and expats, who frequently travel to the region owing to several industrial development initiatives like the Surat- Navsari Twin City Project and the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development project.
 
Opened in phases, VR Surat has a 90% occupancy rate, and has rapidly become the preferred choice of retail and consumer brands to host promotions, launches and events. To cap off the year, VR Surat was recently honored at the Images Group’s Indian Shopping Center Awards (ISCA), 2014. At a ceremony held on May 7th at The Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai, VR Surat won the coveted ‘Most Admired Shopping Center Launch’ award and received special recognition for “Promoting a City’s Heritage”.
 
Speaking on the occasion, S. Raghunandan, CEO, Virtuous Retail, said, “At Virtuous Retail we are constantly striving to rewrite the rules of the shopping centre business in India and I believe we have successfully done that with VR Surat. Our flagship Center in Surat has truly elevated the retail experience to more than just shopping.

It reinforces our belief in our model, which we intend to scale with our upcoming Flagship Centers, VR Bangalore and VR Chennai, set to open in 2015 and 2016 respectively.”
