Wearable devices open up markets for made in USA Textiles

Wearable technology is becoming more and more popular as devices become smaller, sleeker and more user friendly. From Google Glass to heart rate monitor watches, wearable technology is being used by millions people to track and enhance their life every day. These devices have created a new industry for apps and accessories for high tech companies, but they have also created a new industry for many low tech companies as well. While traditional manufacturing is considered a decidedly low tech industry, these companies have carved out a niche area for garments and straps that are an included accessory for these high tech wearable devices.

For devices such as heart rate monitors or AEDs, there is a garment component to the device that is needed for it to function properly. Traditional manufacturing companies are making these items for the high tech companies that produce the devices. The wearable device industry has created a manufacturing revival for US Manufacturers. These items are generally very exacting with tight tolerances so they are best made in the USA where there are tighter controls on manufacturing.

Fieldtex Products Inc is one of these companies that has benefited from the US Manufacturing revival. They have begun producing garments for wearable medical devices and wearable electronics. The company has a design and prototype department that has created vests, strapping and garments for many different devices. Their production line that is devoted to garments for wearable devices has increased from 10 employees to over 60 in the last 3 years.

“Our specialty medical and wearable garment business has grown exponentially in the last few years,” says Carol Maynard, Sales Representative for Fieldtex Products. “We are really excited about the growth in our manufacturing and it is very exciting to see that these high tech companies are recognizing the quality that Made in the USA stands for.”
