Fashion Takes Action (FTA), Canada’s premier non-profit organization that focuses on sustainability in the fashion industry, is set to host the World Ethical Apparel Roundtable (WEAR) conference at Evergreen Brick Works in Toronto, Canada, on the 3rd and 4th of November 2014.

The two-day conference will focus on the many challenges and solutions faced by the fashion industry related to water, waste, toxic chemicals, labour, and carbon. WEAR will also have a series of keynotes, industry panel discussions, and networking sessions.

The conference will bring together apparel brands and retailers, sustainability experts, NGOs and academia, local and international thought leaders from across the apparel supply chain, to collaborate and build relationships and explore new benchmarks in social and environmental sustainability.

Keynote speakers participating in WEAR include Ian Spaulding of Elevate/Alliance, Tom Smith of SEDEX, Connie Ulasewicz of San Francisco State University, and Amy Hall of Eileen Fisher.

The panel discussions will explore topics that include creating shared value & profitability through sustainable business practices, the evolution of social standards & systems; navigating change, make fair, buy fair; responsible supply chain practices from design through delivery, supply chain transparency; tools and trends in visibility & risk management, and innovation, impact & perception: telling new stories.

Companies and organizations represented on the above panels include, Mountain Equipment Co-Op, H&M, Eileen Fisher, Gildan, Me to We Style, Workers United, Made in a Free World, Responsible Sourcing Network, Fashion Takes Action, SGS Canada, SHARE, Ethical Profiling, Avery Dennison, SAI Global, and Textile Recyclers Association.

People working in apparel industry organizations, academia, government officials, design directors, independent designers, marketing and public relations executives, retailers, suppliers, manufacturers, sustainability and CSR managers, operations managers and brand managers are expected to attend the conference.

FTA works with both industry and the general public, with the goal to shift behaviour towards more positive social and environmental impacts. (GK)
