Snapdeal forays into premium designerwear fashion

Having established its position in value-for-money apparel segment, Snapdeal.com will now offer premium designer wear, to its consumers through the launch of its ‘The Designer Studio’.

Snapdeal has launched this new initiative in partnership with an apex body of Indian fashion - Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), in a bid to expand its fashion products assortment in a category which is growing at 30% month-on-month.

The Designer Studio will not only include ready-to-wear and made-to-order clothing collections, but will also build consumer engagement by presenting the complete achievement timeline of each participating designer.

The Designer Studio will showcase an array of creations from labels of renowned Indian fashion designers like Manish Arora, Malini Ramani, Ashish N Soni, Varun Bahl and Samant Chauhan. Snapdeal hopes to rope in more designers in the next few months.

In clothing, the range for women will include dresses, tops, tunics, kaftans, sarees and bridal wear exclusively created by Malini Ramani and Manish Arora and a made-to-measure service for bridal wear by Manish Arora will also soon be added.

For men, Ashish Soni and Samant Chauhan will launch a dashing collection of crisp shirts with pin tuck and other intricate handcrafted detailing, along with striking printed waist-coats. The price of prêt mens collections from these top designers will range between Rs 3,000-35,000.

“This is in line with the company’s strategy to cross a business of Rs.6000 crore from the fashion category by the next financial year, as announced earlier this year,” Snapdeal said.

Amit Maheshwari, Vice President- Fashion at Snapdeal.com said, “We are sure that FDCI’s leadership & expertise in fashion design and Snapdeal’s vision for the fashion business will create the largest online platform for the fashion design community in India.”

He added, “With the launch of The Designer Studio, we aim to provide access to exclusive and premium designer creations to our customers, meet their aspirations and help improve availability, especially in tier-II cities”.

Snapdeal looks forward to further building on ‘The Designer Studio’ and aims to rope in top national and international designers by launching their respective exclusive range on the website and also plans to focus on new talent by tying up with emerging designers as well in the future. (AR)
