The TJX Companies, Inc, an off price retailer of apparel and home fashions, has appointed William Swanson as the new member of its Board of Directors.

William Swanson is the former chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Raytheon Company, a technology and innovation leader specializing in defence, security, and civil markets throughout the world. He was Raytheon’s Chairman and CEO from January 2004 to March 2014, and Chairman until he retired in September 2014, after a 42-year career with the company, TJX said in a press release.

During Swanson’s tenure, he held a wide range of leadership positions, including setting strategy and managing operations for Raytheon’s global business.

On behalf of our Board, we are looking forward to working with Bill as we move toward becoming a US$ 40 billion company and beyond.”

As of November 1, 2014, the end of the Company’s third quarter, TJX operated a total of 3,385 stores in six countries, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and Poland, and three e-commerce sites. (GK)
