Detroit Lions renews partnership with Repreve

Following the first year of a successful partnership, the Detroit Lions announced a second consecutive year with Unifi, Inc.'s Repreve, as the team's official sustainability partner.

“Kicking off the 2015 season, Detroit Lions teamed up with Repreve for the second year to continue on its sustainability initiative,” Unifi said in a press release.

The Detroit Lions team will be seen wearing their crimmage green with Matthew Stafford and other Lions quarterbacks wearing jerseys made from recycled plastic bottles.

"We are very excited to have Repreve back for another year of a great sustainable partnership," said Detroit Lions team president Tom Lewand.

"Last year, Lions fans recycled nearly 60,000 plastic bottles at Ford field and we look forward to the continuation of this aggressive recycling effort,” he added.

“This continued partnership with the Lions provides us a unique platform to educate fans on the importance of recycling and sustainability," said Roger Berrier, president at Unifi.

"Compared to other countries, the US recycles significantly fewer plastic materials, with less than 32 per cent being recycled,” he added.

“Together with the Lions, we can show fans that through the simple act of recycling, they can play a role in transforming plastic bottles into great consumer products," Berrier observed.

Repreve transforms recycled plastic bottles into fibres used to make fabric found in some of America's favourite brands, including Ford, Haggar, Polartec, Quiksilver and Volcom.

Repreve is Unifi, Inc.'s flagship brand of recycled fibres, made from recycled materials, including plastic bottles and can be found in products like apparel, hosiery, automotive and industrial applications. (AR)
