The country's largest intimate apparel trade fair, Galleria Intima, in its fourth instalment brings in two major Chinese elastic companies – Legend Elastics and Shangang Elastics – to showcase their products.

The event is organised by the Indian Intimate Apparel Association of India (IAAI) every year. Textiles minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar will inaugurate this year's show to be held on 26-27 August in New Delhi.

This year's event will focus on expanding Indian elastic industries in collaboration with Chinese producers to provide a competitive edge in the world market. It will also be a platform where local consumer trends and patterns will be discussed by Chinese as well Indian stakeholders to derive optimum benefit from the industry.

India has the potential to become one of the leading producers. However, lack of innovation in the areas of design and production are posing as major hindrances for manufacturers. The Chinese, being the largest suppliers of intimate wear in the world, produce a variety of top quality designs. The two-day event will provide Indian manufacturers an insight on producing high quality products through workshops, profitable collaborations, and exchange of ideas with Chinese companies, IAAI said in a press release.

Yusuf Dohadwala, CEO of IAAI, comments, “Procuring good quality elastics for undergarments and lingerie has proven to be a tough task for the Indian intimate clothing industry. We hope to open new doors for intimate apparel manufacturers in India with the participation of Chinese elastic companies, presenting opportunities of imports from China or of joint ventures between Chinese and Indian manufacturers to produce high quality elastics in India.”

Along with the top world brands, more than 1,000 brands from India, will be participating in Galleria Intima 2015. Everything related to the intimate wear industry from fibre to packaging, and from machinery to laces, will be brought under one roof.

Sachin Gupta, Director of Bodycare International has high expectations from this year's show: “The Indian elastic industry has been doing pretty well with a lot of options available, although there is scope for the implementation of more innovative and enhanced technology in this sector, which this year's show will be exhibiting. All in all we are expecting a great and complete show that will house everything under one roof, including fabrics, packaging, elastics, trims etc.” (HO)
