Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2007 to be held in Colombo

Apparel exporters will be discussing the industry's path forward at the Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2007.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) organizes the summit, from 6-7 June in Colombo, in partnership with the Board of Investment.
The initiative, supported by the SAARC and Trade Promotion projects, is implemented jointly by CCC and German Technical Co-operation (GTZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ).
Turney Mohamed, a former President of Garment Buying Offices Association will chair the session on apparel industry.
Other speakers include Ajit Dias, Chairman of the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) to speak on "Direction for the private sector in Apparel Development".
Managing Director of Star Garments A Sukumaran will speak on "Backward Integration, its progress and the future". Garments - a knowledge based industry, would be discussed by Prasanna Hettiarachchi, General Manager at MAS Holdings, while Kumar Mirchandani, Managing Director of Favorites garments will speak on "garments without guilt" the industry's slogan.
The session will be followed by a panel discussion with Channa Palansuriya, Managing Director/CEO-Orit Apparels Lanka and Rajiv Samarasinghe, President, Sri Lanka Garment Buying Offices Association.
The Sri Lankan industry has continued to show growth and recorded total export revenues of US $255.6 million a year on year growth of 4.5 percent according to the Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association.
The apparel industry contributes around 40 percent of all industrial production, which represents almost half of all exports and directly or indirectly provides at least 75 percent of Sri Lanka's employment.
