China : Turkey - though competitor in EU underwear market

 Statistics reveal that China remains the top supplier for EU textile market followed by Turkey. Turkey has successfully taken the second spot due to its cheap but quality raw materials. Besides, the geographical proximity to West Europe has enabled Turkey to compete with China for market share in EU, especially, in the underwear category.
Recently, Chairman of Turkey Underwear Association informed that the women’s tight-fitting underwear had achieved firm position in European market.
Data shows that Turkey’s jeans clothing export takes the top spot accounting for 19 percent of entire textile shipments, followed by shirts at 10 and underwear at about 10 percent. In the first half of this year, the underwear export of Turkey went up 14 percent.
Currently, the competition between China and Turkey in EU textile market revolves around high-grade products.
Recognizing this, many underwear enterprises are taking steps to increase productivity and strengthen their position in the EU.
For instance, in an attempt to decrease production cost and boost competitiveness, leading underwear manufacturer of Turkey, Aubade Company, has shifted its factory from France to Turkey.
