Villagers of Molituva in Rewa are one step closer to tourism development and employment self-sufficiency after a donation by the Tappoo Group.
This comes after the Tappoo Group donated traditional costumes and uniforms specially designed for villagers to entertain tourists who visit the old fort at Molituva.
The donation comes after the Ministry of Tourism put out a request for assistance through the Public Private Partnership program to develop the Molituva old village fort as a tourist attraction.
Tappoo Group director Mahendra Tappoo said the company hoped the uniforms and costumes would jumpstart the local community and villagers' efforts towards their own development and income generation potential.
He said the Tappoo Group was pleased to assist with the growth of the tourism potential of Fiji.
The project at Molituva is one of the Ministry of Tourism's Community Based Tourism initiatives, which is part of the Integrated Human Resource Development program initiated by the International Labour Organisation and the Fiji government.
The main intention is to generate employment and income for communities that are at a disadvantage due to unemployment. The villagers have also undergone tourism-related training programs in preparation for the opening of the Molituva old village fort site to visitors.
The Molituva old village fort is expected to officially open to visitors from next month.
