Aeropostale same store sales increase 12% in June

Aeropostale Inc a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, announced that total net sales for the five-week period ended July 5, 2008 increased 22% to $136.0 million, from $111.4 million for the five-week period ended July 7, 2007.

The Company's same store sales increased 12% for the month, compared to being essentially flat in the year ago period.

Year to date total net sales have increased 21% to $574.7 million, from $475.3 million in the year-ago period. Year to date same store sales increased 10%, compared to a same store sales increase of 2% last year.

The Company noted that during the month the strength of its merchandise assortment coupled with the successful execution of its pre-planned promotions led to solid increases in both same store sales and gross margins as compared to last year.

Accordingly, both the level and composition of its inventories are well positioned as Aeropostale heads into the peak back to school selling season.

Based on the better than expected sales and gross margins for the month, the Company now believes it will achieve second quarter earnings of $0.25 to $0.26 per share, versus its previously issued guidance of $0.22 to $0.24 per share.
