The Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade recently reported that the textile and apparel sector of the country exported around 1.8 million dozens of trousers in the month of May 2008.
Revenue generated amounted to US $120 million representing an increase of 29 and 27 percent in terms of volume and value respectively over April this year, but dipping by 0.9 percent in value when compared to the same period last year.
Among all the exporting markets, US retained its reputation for being the largest client, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the total export turnover of Vietnam.
A total of 1.21 million dozens of trousers were shipped to the US in the period under review, representing a month on month rise of 25 percent.
Shipment to EU market also reaped strong growth as exports totaled $25.5 million, representing a rise of 20 percent in volume and 36 percent in value compared to April 2008. However, when compared to the same period in 2007, trouser exports reflected a slight decline.
Trouser exports in 2007 had recorded an annual increase of 17 percent which goes to show that Vietnam is gradually making its mark in the international market.
