Over the years, Indonesia has emerged to become world's 10th largest supplier of garments and the third largest to the US. Apparel exports reached $2.1 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 6 percent from the previous year. Moreover, demand for these products have also mounted by 12-14 percent compared to the preceding year.
The industry is finally witnessing a revival and even the Industry Ministry had lent an overwhelming support last year by disbursing Rp255 billion as interest rate subsidies and soft loans to 92 textile and garment manufacturers for purchasing new machineries.
