UNIQLO to produce official T-shirt for 2009 Cannes Lions

UNIQLO joins hands with Cannes International Advertising Festival to produce official T-shirt Design open to applicants worldwide.

- "2009 Cannes Lions T-shirt Grand Prix" competition to create the most suitable T-shirt design for the leading creative ad festival in the world -

After winning the Cannes Lions Grand Prix in 2008, UNIQLO is to produce an official T-shirt for the same Grand Prix in 2009.

A Grand Prix-winning design will be commercialized as a T-shirt for distribution at Cannes Lions 2009. And, all 10 selected entries will be adopted for T-shirts to be sold at UNIQLO stores next summer.

- Why produce an official T-shirt for Cannes Lions 2009?
UNIQLO won the Grand Prix in the Titanium and Cyber Sections at the 2008 Cannes Lions advertising festival for its web-based UNIQLOCK global promotion tool. The Cannes Lions recognized UNIQLO's creativity with its award and then later, when the organizers of the Cannes Lions began to see the potential media value of the T-shirt, cooperation was forged between the organizers and UNIQLO, the developer of T-shirts, as media to promote individual expression. The end result has been the creation of an official T-shirt. In order to attain the very best possible design, UNIQLO has decided to transform this T-shirt creation into a worldwide design competition. The 2009 Cannes Lions judges will screen the entries and select the T-shirt design that they feel most suitable for the leading creative advertising festival in the world.

- 2009 Cannes Lions official T-shirt design competition
The subject for this UNIQLO official T-shirt design competition must focus on the "lion", the symbol of the Cannes International Advertising Festival. As long as the basic material involves the lion theme, the applicant is free to design the T-shirt however he/she wishes. Ten entries from among the submitted designs will be selected and one entry is to receive the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix-winning design will be commercialized as a T-shirt for distribution to guests and members of the media at Cannes Lions 2009 next June. And, T-shirts based on all 10 designs selected will be sold in UNIQLO stores.

- Cannes International Advertising Festival
The Cannes International Advertising Festival is an international advertising event hosted by International Advertising Festival Limited with headquarters located in London. Officially called the "International Advertising Festival", the event is also referred to as the "Cannes Lions" after the lion trophies presented to winners.

The festival is held every year in June in Cannes in the south of France to select winners for each of the 10 established segments.

Design criteria - The subject for this UNIQLO official T-shirt design competition must focus on the "lion", the symbol of the Cannes International Advertising Festival. As long as the basic material involves the lion theme, the applicant is free to design the T-shirt however he/she wishes.

Grand Prix - The winning applicant will be invited to Cannes Lions 2009.
Entry period - Thursday, November 21, 2008 through Sunday, December 21, 2008

Entry criteria - There are no age or nationality restrictions. Entries can be submitted from all over the world.

Method of judging - The 2009 Cannes Lions judges will judge the competition directly. They will select 10 entries from among the submitted designs and then one entry to receive the Grand Prix.
