Textile and apparel sector is considered to be one of the strongest pillars of Sri Lankan economy, earning huge foreign exchange for the country.

Sri Lanka's apparel manufacturing sector is highly developed and has evolved as an export oriented industry for over two decades. Currently, around 800 companies produce a wide range of products including few branded names. Most of them cater to the international market. Today clothing labelled 'Made in Sri Lanka' can be found in major department stores in the USA, UK, Germany and Australia.

Though hit with the global economic crisis, the apparel industry is moving at a steady pace.

In an exclusive interaction with Fibre2fashion.com, Mr Sumedha Jayasinghe, Manager Merchandising, Daya Apparel Export (Pvt) Ltd, gave a clear picture of Daya Apparel, when global recession is affecting industries across the world.

Mr Sumedha Jayasinghe stated, “Since the inception in 1992 with vast experience in the casual wear industry, we have become one of the top 5 garment manufacturers in the country.
