Exports to ASEAN from textile & garment sector soars

In 2008, Thailand's textile and garment exports turnover to countries in the South East Asian region fetched US $1.024 billion, representing a year – on – year growth of 10.73 percent.
ASEAN was the third largest export market for the Thai textile and garment sector products during the previous year, and stood behind the US and EU. Among all countries in the ASEAN region, Vietnam was the top buyer.
The exports turnover to Vietnam stood at $224.56 million, rising by 11.07 percent over 2007, followed by Indonesia with $182.66 million, up 14.48 percent and Malaysia with $133.49 million, up by 11.18 percent.
The latest statistics revealed by the Thailand Textile Institute reveals that shipments from the sector touched $7.199 billion in 2008, growing by a nominal 2.4 percent in comparison with 2007.
