Although many people complain it is hard to find jobs nowadays, Qingdao Jia Xin Textile Co., Ltd is finding it difficult to employ 200 more people, even though it has offered a monthly salary of 2,500 Yuan, compared to 1200-1500 Yuan, being paid in other organizations.

The factory mainly produces fatigue and overalls garments and receives a regular stream of orders since it has diversified its export base to a large number of countries and has in hand production orders extending up to the first half of 2009.

However, due to reasons, unknown, the factory is not able to find workers to run its sewing machines. Despite the fact that it has orders in hand for the next few months, compared to other units, who are witnessing falling volumes in orders; it may not be able to complete these due to shortage of labour.

In any other garment manufacturing unit, a sewing machine worker is paid an average salary of 1200-1500 Yuan per month, but since the productivity of a worker at Qingdao is above average, the wage level is much higher than those prevailing in other garment manufacturing units.
