MAS Holdings bags Vendor of the Year by at Femmy Awards

Sri Lankan apparel giant MAS Holdings was honoured as the Vendor of the Year by the prestigious Underfashion Club at the annual Femmy Awards Gala held on the 3rd of February, 2009. The Femmy Awards honor individuals and companies that have significantly contributed to the intimate apparel industry and its growth. The event took place at the Cipriani on 42nd Street in New York, USA.

MAS Holdings has become one of the coveted companies in the intimate apparel world. Its design-to-delivery offerings are supplemented by offerings such as fast replenishment to silicon embedding and organic and fair trade products. Its processes are smooth, driven by a lean manufacturing model and a tightly integrated supply chain.

It is highly sought after for its innovative capabilities in both product and process; its patented Bondelast technology was used at the Speedo LZR Racer line in Beijing Olympics. MAS Intimates Thurulie, its iconic green plant and Women Go Beyond, the acclaimed employee empowerment initiative have won global renown.

Sharon Turney, Chief Executive Officer and President, Victoria's Secret Megabrand and Intimate Apparel, who presented the award said, “We are excited about how MAS has impacted their employees lives and how they continue to strengthen their partnership through leadership, innovation and putting corporate social responsibility into action... which are the very attributes for which MAS is being honoured with a Femmy Award this evening.”

MAS was applauded, not only for its manufacturing excellence, but also for its values. Described as “A company that was dedicated to living its values and focusing on its people” MAS' devotion to employee welfare, corporate responsibility and its focus on customer partnerships garnered admiration and praise.

The award was accepted by Chairman of MAS Holdings, Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean, who described it as an 'honour and privilege.' “This is the first time ever in the history of the Femmys that a company outside of the USA has won the Vendor of the Year Award: a major achievement not only for MAS but for Sri Lanka as well.

MAS Holdings is not a novice at the Femmys. In 2008, Stretchline Holdings, a division of MAS won the Femmy Award for Innovation. This latest award represents an even greater honour for the company as it joins such illustrious names as Jockey International Inc., Elle Macpherson Intimates, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom Inc. and Bloomingdale's in the list of Femmy Award honourees.

At the event, Jockey International was feted as the Manufacturer of the Year and Nordstrom as the Retailer of the Year. Sara Blakely, Founder of Spanx Inc received the Innovation Award and Ann Deal, CEO of Fashion Forms Inc. was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
