The Thailand Textile Institute reported that in January 2008 the country's textile and garment export turnover declined 11.1 percent y-o-y to US $518.6 million, which includes $233.2 million of textile shipments, down 22.1 percent and $285.4 million of garment products, up 0.4 percent.
US is still the biggest exporting market of the country, with exports amounting to $146.9 million but fell by 12.51 percent, followed by EU with $104.9 million, down 7.66 percent, ASEAN countries $59.6 million, falling by 26.69 percent. Only shipments to Japan reversed the trend and grew by 7.43 percent to $44.8 million.
Exports to all countries in the ASEAN region suffered strong and massive declines. Among them, Vietnam, the biggest market among ASEAN countries, fell by 12.76 percent to $14.09 million; Indonesia $10.22 million, down 32.23 percent and Singapore $6.44 million, down 24.85 percent.
