In the first month of fiscal year 2009, some key garment products of Vietnam kept its pace of generating good growth in exports, though a few recorded falls too, despite declines in the global textile and garment industry.
Exports turnover of Kimono suit fetched US $11.9 million during the month, a growth of 33 percent over the same period last year, while shipments of jumper (wool) brought in $5.7 million, an increase, though nominal of 3.4 percent y-o-y.
Besides, exports of Jacket Suits rose by 2.7 percent to $70 million and one of the best growth rates was delivered in export turnover of fabrics, which touched $46 million, up 77 percent over the corresponding period of 2008.
But, despite being the largest foreign currency earning product from within the garment export basket, shipments of elastic shirts suffered a decline of 3.25 percent to reach $168 million during the month of January 2009.
