The global economic trend has transformed to the contemporary creative economy from the past service economy. To show the contemporary Hakka culture, enshrine the coming of the creative era, and inspire the application of expanding cultural image to creative design, the Council for Hakka Affairs, Executive Yuan is particularly holding the “2009 Hakka Product Creative Design Competition”.

In view of the dependency of the value of the aesthetic economy on the level of innovative energy, the Council for Hakka Affairs is extending the spirit of the Taiwan Hakka Expo – the “Good Hakka” of Hakka lovers - to hold this competition. It is expected to utilize the originating Hakka cultural creative design and the layout of technology, humanity, aesthetics and economic cultural network to further bring the application of Hakka culture into the wide market.

This design competition is divided into the groups: “Greeting Hakka with Tung Blossoms”, “Hakka fabric”, “Hakka gifts” and “Hakka T-shirts”. The Greeting the Hakka with Tung Blossoms group uses the Hakka Tung Blossom Festival as the theme to design daily necessities or crafts that can be provided to make samples, mass produce and commercialize. The top prize for this groups is NT$ 200,000.

The Hakka fabric group designs creative products with creative fabric patterns that have Hakka characteristics. The top prize for this group is NT$ 150,000. The Hakka gifts group uses the Hakka spirit as a basis to design souvenirs that can be commercialized. The top prize for this group is NT$ 150,000. The Hakka T-shirt group uses Hakka elements as creative symbols to design aesthetic works that have cultural images. The top prize for this group is NT$ 100,000.

The time to submit work for this competition is from March 12, 2009 to 17:00 on Monday, March 23, 2009 (postmarked by). We expect to have individual or group participation to encourage the creation transformation of the Hakka cultural image, and the R&D of cultural products.

The Council for Hakka Affairs will handle the work evaluation through professional and reasonable evaluation. In addition to awarding the gold medal winner up to NT$ 200,000, to encourage more people to participate, members of each group who are nominated for the initial election, but do not win any awards, will each receive NT$ 5,000.
