The Sri Lankan government has recently declared a stimulus package for the export oriented sectors in the country. Experts have hailed the announcement of the package and expect that it will do a world of good for the export based companies, particularly the garment industry.

They suggest that the stimulus package will help the companies stay afloat, but a proper mechanism should be worked out to regulate the disbursal of the funds available under the stimulus package to the exporting companies.

But they advise that the exporters should take advantage of the recent consumer surge in eco-friendly and sustainable products, considering that Sri Lanka already has an edge in the production of green apparels, with MAS holdings and Brandix being flag bearers of this trend.

They aver that, eco-friendly garments is still a niche market and in the current global slowdown and these products still would be able to find a firm footing rather than mass produced and traditional clothing which is manufactured in most Asian countries.

They also counseled the exporters to be more innovative in their approach, since consumers always have accepted new concepts, subject to that, it serves their purpose along with delivering quality and value during the lifetime of the product.
