O'Neill children's sweatshirts under recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: O'Neill Children's Sweatshirts with Drawstrings

Units: About 9,700

Distributor: La Jolla Sport USA, of Irvine, Calif.

Hazard: The jackets have a drawstring through the hood which poses a strangulation hazard. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled children's hooded sweatshirts have RN number 85773 printed in the center back neck and were sold in sizes S-XL. The product name and style number are printed on the hangtag on the left side seam of the garment, which comes in a variety of colors.

Sold at: Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Boscovs, Chicks Sporting Goods, Gottschalks, Jacks Surf and Sport, Lesters and Zappos nationwide from December 2007 through January 2009.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts to eliminate the hazard or return the garment to the place of purchase or to La Jolla Sport to receive a full refund.
