Since the beginning of 2009, Vietnamese textile and garment industry has been facing a lot of difficulties in exports due to the slow down in global markets. The other big malady affecting the sector is the shortage of trained labour.
According to experts, the textile and garment enterprises are facing shortage of workers more so due to the fact that workers do not want to work in the sector due to the low wages offered by the sector.
He added by saying that, the textile, garment and furniture sector needs an additional 2,000 new workers and enterprises have been continuously recruiting the workers but still is not enough to man all their production lines.
One more reason cited by experts is that, the textile and garment industries pay their salaries late as well as do not provide good benefits to the workers as offered to workers of other sectors in Vietnam.
New projects in Quang Ngai province in the textile and garment sector are in the pipe line and once these projects are operational, the shortage of workers will become a more serious issue, for which a solution needs to be worked out.
