The Democratic administration of President Barrack Obama as part of new strategy is contemplating creation of 'Reconstruction Opportunity Zones' (ROZ) on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and enable apparel products manufactured in these zones, tariff free entry in to the US, irrespective of the country of origin of the yarn and fabric.

The Executive Director of US Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USAITA), Ms Laura Jones has vehemently endorsed the proposal of the government and said that this would ultimately create employment opportunities in these border areas and stop the flow of young men from joining anti-national organizations.

But she added by saying that the apparel products which feature under the current tariff free controls needs to be expanded, since there are 30 other products which have not been included in that list and were till recently under the quota control agreement between China and the US and which add up to two thirds of apparel imports from Pakistan.
