An expert has advised the Thailand textile and garment sector to adopt and create an integrated supply chain management system to survive the crisis as well as face the onslaught from cost competitiveness global markets amidst slowdown in export sales.
This was the mantra propagated by Mr David Birnbaum, a clothing industry expert associated with the World Bank, United Nations and the WTO, at a seminar titled, “Winning the war under changed game rules”, organised by the Thai Garment Manufacturers Association (TGMA).
He said, the present crisis had reduced demand for textiles and apparels by nearly seven times, when compared with the pre-crisis period and suggested that the sector should channelize export orders through a supply chain with related industries.
He added by saying that, this would help the exporting companies to produce high value products at very competitive rates, which could help them survive through the crisis and select companies for their competency rather than anything else for integration within the system.
Another expert speaking on the benefits of a supply chain system said that cooperation among each manufacturer in related industries have lowered production costs for enterprises and helped related businesses survive.
